Herne Hill’s senior men’s squad climbed out of the relegation zone of division one of the British Athletics League after finishing fourth in the latest fixture at Bromley.
Top-three A-string performances included: Jonathan Grant (second in both 100m and long jump), Nicholas Atwell (third in the 200m and second in the 400m, the latter with a PB 47.22), Lewis Lloyd (first in the 800m in a season’s best 1:52.27 and second in the 1500m), Rushane Thomas (third in the 110m hurdles ), Isaac Ogunlade (third in the 400m hurdles), Tayo Andrews (third in the high jump) and Gavin Johnson-Assoon (first in the javelin). Blade Ashby was a very good double B string winner (400m hurdles and 110m hurdles).
Further significant performers were John Tayleur who broke 10 minutes for the first time in the 3000m steeplechase as he finished fourth in the A-string race in 9:58.75, Mike Cummings who ran a personal best of 1:55.78 for fourth in the 800m B-string race and Charlie Maw whose 4.20m pole vault placed fourth in the A string behind third only on count back. Chris Sinclair and Allandre Johnson were second in the B long jump and javelin respectively, while under-17 Reiss Senior also made a promising debut placing sixth in the B hammer with 39.73m only just shy of his recent PB and Stuart Thurgood made a very welcome return in the A string hammer placing fifth.
Well done every team member, every point counts! Our fourth team placing sees us out of the relegation zone with one match remaining, but it’s not yet job done as we still need one more good result at our final match in Liverpool on Saturday 8th August….
