HERNE HILL HARRIERS MIDDLE/LONG DISTANCE TRAINING – SENIOR ATHLETES

We are the self styled sharp end middle/long distance group based at Tooting Bec Athletics Track on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with Thursday hill sessions at Streatham Common on some Thursdays and sessions on some non racing Saturdays.
We complement the other training groups rather than compete with them and strive for excellence – putting the needs of our athletes first and foremost – current group aged anything from 16 to 65, but it is more about your running speed and your work ethic….
Interested in joining in a session? Our training sessions are typically as follows:-
TUESDAY EVENINGS 7.15 – 8.30 PM
Our winter sessions alternate between sessions on Tooting Athletics Track and sessions on Tooting Common opposite the track – please contact Geoff if unsure whether it is a track or off track week
We meet accordingly either inside the track or at the car park opposite the track ready to start our sessions at 7pm.
Off track we typically do tempo runs and/or reps of time durations ranging from one min to 5 min building up to a total of 20-25 min of reps (e.g. 6 x 4 min reps OR 5 min tempo followed by 6 x 3 min reps OR 2 sets of 8 x 90 sec reps).
Our winter training is mainly endurance building equally suitable for athletes training for all race distances from 800m/1500m up to cross country or marathon.
ON ALTERNATE THURSDAY EVENINGS 7.30 – 8.30 PM we run hill reps meeting at the top of Streatham Common South at the junction of Covington Way by the café and the Rookery.
We typically run 8-12 by reps of a hill that is between 45 and 70 sec duration.
Those weeks when we are not at Streatham we run threshold sessions on Tooting track. These sessions are in conjunction with other distance running groups in the club and are taken by Keith Newton and Andrew Black
