Herne Hill Harriers M50 4 x 800m relay team sets new British record

A new British record was set at the Open Meeting hosted by Herne Hill Harriers at Tooting Bec track on Saturday. The record breaking 4x800m team was Graeme Moyse, Andrew Simms, Vic Maughn and Gary Ironmonger with a time of 9:22.13, taking 10 seconds off the record, also set at Tooting, 36 years ago.

HHH athletes take seven medals at British Masters Championship

Six of Herne Hill Harriers vets took home seven medals from the British Masters Championship which took place in Birmingham this weekend. Allan Long won a national gold medal in the M70 long jump and also a bronze at 100m. Our silver medalists were Nikki Sturzaker (W40 1500m in a PB time of 5.03.70), Valdis Pauzers (M60 5000m walk) and Mike Mann (M65 1500m). One of the club’s British record-setting relay men, Gary Ironmonger, capped a great weekend of personal achievement by battling for bronze in the M50 800m. Giuseppe Minetti also took bronze in the M45 200m, following a PB in the 100m the day before.

HHH young athletes set new Club record at Olympic Stadium

HHH had young athletes teams competing in the Olympic Stadium on Friday evening in the club connect 4 x 100m relays as part of the Anniversary Games. The HHH U15 girls team set a fast new club record of 49.16 for third in their race and are currently ranked fifth in the UK. HHH U15 boys were also in the first six in their race in the stadium.

The club’s young athletes also competed in the Lily B League match at Carshalton on Saturday, with HHH’s U13 girls breaking the club 4 x 100m record for their age group clocking 53.6, which sees them rise to fourth in the national club rankings.

The young athletes continued to perform well elsewhere in the Derek Crookes U13 Inter-Counties meeting at Kingsmeadow where Lulu King came very close to her own club record, winning the 800m with 2.21.13. HHH strength in depth of the middle distance girls’ squad was emphasised by Maisie Collis winning the 1500m in 4.50.49, with Jessica Tabraham coming third in the B string, while in the boys races eleven year old Jaden Kennedy came within a second of his PB placing second in the 1500m with 4.40.26.

HHH senior women’s record-breaking month continues

Following Stacey Ward’s 5000m record on Saturday 18th July, Great Britain under-23 international Katie Snowden set a new 1500m mark at the BMC races at Eltham last Wednesday. In a mixed gender race, Snowden recorded 4.14.73, taking almost 3 seconds from her previous club standard and showing her season may have further highlights to come.

International stars join Open Day hosted by Herne Hill Harriers at Tooting Bec track

Herne Hill Harriers enjoyed a successful Open track & field meeting which included high quality performances by internationals Montell Douglas, the former Great Britain womens 100m record holder and Delano Williams, who represented Great Britain at the last IAAF World championships in Moscow.

Amongst the local club’s athletes, English Schools junior girls long jump champion Ore Adamson set a new PB of 5.66m in the long jump at the Open Day to rank second in the UK under 15 girls in her first year in the age group.
