Fabulous 2nd Place at BMC Grand Prix and HHH women’s record for Stacey

Herne Hill Harriers distance star Stacey Ward smashed her own senior women’s club 5000m record to finish second at the Oxford BMC Grand Prix.

Saturday’s meeting was held on the famous Bannister 4 minute mile track at Iffley Road and witnessed a truly superb run for Stacey, whose record time was 16.19.92 and she achieved an unexpected 2nd place in a quality race. Ward did not allow a sore throat and blocked nose to prevent her tracking the eventual American winner throughout the 12.5 laps, ignoring the fast early pace of a runaway leader who followed the pacemaker to 3k but was then reeled in and finished 4th. Following Ward’s recent 12th place at the BBC televised British Champs, this cements her position as one of the most improved senior women in the UK this summer at the 5000m distance as she claimed more international scalps at the Grand Prix meet. British Champs 2015 5000m1 British Champs 2015 5000m3
