HHH under 13 star Jaden Kennedy has broken the club and Surrey county age group record for both 800m and 1500m this season and his most recent 800m performance was nothing short of sensational – 2.06.35, 5th on the UK all time list as stated in this eye witness account from his coach, James McDonald…
It was a perfectly still evening in Woking AC’s Sheerwater Track, ideal conditions for middle distance running and improving PB’s. Recently Jaden has been running against the clock, but today he was up against giants with everyone in the race, bar one at least over a foot taller than he was. The gun went off and with a curved start Jaden was soon engulfed by a mass of bodies pushing him to the back of the group almost immediately, blocking his progress but somehow he still managed to work his way through getting a creditable 63s first lap.
At the bell he was again boxed in and with about 320m to go managed to extricate himself and powered along the back straight overtaking much older athletes. Coming off the bend with about 100m to go Jaden showed his inexperience by not running the athlete he had previously overtaken, wide. The athlete overtook Jaden cutting him up in the process and causing Jaden to stumble. Jaden soon regained his composure and powered home with his usual strong finish in 5th place in a remarkable 2:06.35 and with a second 63s split.
He has now extended his lead at the top of the UK Rankings by 6 seconds which places him No.5 on the UK All Time List. Only today someone told me that the world Record for a 12 year old is 2:03.
Absolutely well done and well deserved lad…..
