At the South of England Indoor track and field championship at Lee Valley Herne Hill Harriers athletes claimed two medals over the weekend.
On Saturday a gold medal was claimed by under 20 sprinter Kristal Awuah in the 60m. Awuah showed excellent speed and a clean pair of heels to her rivals in the under 20 women’s 60m final in 7.44 seconds. Kristal is a fine international prospect for 2018 and her time from Lee Valley places her equal fourth in the early year UK overall women’s 60m rankings and she is the current number one under 20 woman.
In Sunday’s indoor events it was very good to see the return from injury of Julien Allwood, who won the silver medal in the senior men’s triple jump with 14.59m.
Other finalists were Fiona de Mauny, who finished fourth in the senior women’s 800m in 2.18.78, a position emulated by Tayo Andrews in the senior men’s high jump with his clearance of 1.95m. Annabel Hobday placed sixth in the under 20 women’s 800m in 2.24.92 and Lakeisha Owusu-Junior placed seventh in the under 20 women’s 60m final that was won by Awuah after clocking a PB of 7.69 in her semi-final.
