We pride ourselves on being a family club and cater for all standards. We offer coaching, training and competitions in all track and field events, road running, cross-country, indoor athletics and sports hall.
We welcome athletes of all ages from 11 upwards interested in track and field, road running or cross country races. The Star-Track Summer Training Week at the end of July offers an excellent opportunity for youngsters to get involved.
The men’s track and field team competes in the British Athletics League, Division 1 and in Division 1 Central of the Southern Men’s League as well as the mid-week Rosenheim League with other local clubs. The women also have a track and field team which was promoted to the UK Women’s Athletics League in 2008 and will now compete in Division 2 of the UKWAL in 2014. Our Young Athletes can compete in the National Youth Development League. The club also competes in the Ebbisham and Lily B Leagues to offer further competition for U15 and U13 boys and girls, while our older track and field exponents are no less competitive, reaching the final of the men’s Southern Veterans League for age groups over 35 in year after year.
A number of club members also compete at the highest level – long jumper Jade Johnson has represented Great Britain in a number of major championships, including the Olympic Games, and won silver medals in the 2002 European Championships and Commonwealth Games. The club has a plethora of highly talented youngsters, some of whom regularly break club age-group records, and a number of these young starlets have won medals in various national competitons. The club is also blessed with a number of very talented veteran athletes, some of whom have won medals and national and internaional level.
In the winter the club competes in the Surrey Cross Country League and the men’s team are in Division 1, having been league champions on a number of occasions since the turn of this century. Our women are also in Division 1 of the female equivalent, the Surrey Ladies League. The club also annually contests the Surrey, South of England and National Cross Country Championships and the men’s team won ten county titles in 11 years between 2002 and 2012. The club also contests the South of Thames Championships and competes in the East Surrey League.
Road runners are equally at home. Club teams annually enter the Surrey, South of England and National 6-Stage Road Relays in the autumn as well as the longer 12-Stage races in the spring for the men and also the female and equivalent road relay championship races. Red and black hoops are regularly seen in the London Marathon as well as at numerous local road races. Our men’s vets team have been particularly successful and have in the past decade been British Masters Cross Country Relay and Road Relay champions and were also the South of England Road Relay champions for seven consecutive years from 2003 to 2009. In the summer, the club also participates in the Surrey Road League.
Although we have well established teams contesting the major local leagues and championships, we very much welcome new members and would encourage you to come along to our main club night at Tooting Bec track, London SW17 on Tuesdays at 7pm.
