Katie Snowden of Herne Hill Harriers clocked 2:01.98 placing a good 5th at the Oordegem IFAM Outdoor meeting in Belgium in an international class 800m race on Saturday 28th May. This time is Snowden’s second fastest to date and is frustratingly just outside the qualifying time to be considered for selection for the Olympic Games or European Championsip (2.01.50), but nevertheless an excellent step forward at this stage of her season.
Just over a week later sees another strong run in the bank for our globe trotting Katie in a European Athletics permit meeting, the Josef Odložil Memorial in Prague on Monday 6th June. Not just yet the qualifying time she would ideally want, but that will now soon come, especially as her 2.02.65 clocking is her 3rd fastest time to date as a good follow up to her recent 2nd fastest in Belgium. Well done and representing on Eurosport TV in the famous red and black colours,
In what is perhaps the most competitive senior event in UK athletics, with seven athletes having already attained the qualifying time, Snowden is poised only just behind most of the leading protagonists and with another race or two could potentially leapfrog some of them, as things really are that close overall in a very exciting event this year.
