Positive weekend for HHH National League teams

4 x 4 Dream Team Aldershot UKWAL

Herne Hill Harriers senior national league teams put in positive performances on Saturday 2nd July as our men’s British Athletics League (BAL) team at Bromley maintained a mid table position, 5th of 8 teams in a very tight league table still fraught with potential danger, while our UK Women’s League (UKWL) team placed 2nd at Aldershot to boost our chances of promotion. Both teams have one league fixture remaining, BAL is on Saturday 6th August at Basingstoke and UKWL is on Sunday 7th August at Kingsmeadow.

Both of the HHH teams featured some great individual performances and included some real team players getting the job done. Our BAL team left the venue on the day believing we had come 6th in the match, but once the organisers corrected the results of the javelin (in which Gavin Johnson-Assoon and Allandre Johnson were our only event winners of the day) we ended up 5th and are 5th in the division with one match to go.

Our middle distance athletes in our UKWL team have been especially dominant in their events with team captain Steph Mitchell and Helena Corbin winning their 800m races, Chloe Tighe and Stacey Ward winning 1500m and Steph McCall and Cathy Ansell the 3000m, but every single point contributed by team members is vital, not just the event winning scores alone.

Our UKWL team now has a fighting chance of winning promotion – but only if we continue to have a full all round team that covers all events ultilising the fabulous team spirit that has been shown at our matches so far at Rugby and Aldershot.
