On Sunday 8th February Herne Hill Harriers had the honour of sending a Senior Women’s team of four to represent both the club and Great Britain at the European Champion Clubs Cup Cross Country. HHH were selected via our performances late last year at the National Cross Country Relays, where we achieved team silver, and the Liverpool Cross Challenge (inc. European Trials), where we had two individuals in the top 10. This year’s ECCC Cross Country was held in Albufeira, Portugal and our team was comprised of Molly Smith, Lucy Jones, Sophie Tooley and Grace Leyland.
Molly placed a superb 9th in a field stacked with international talent, with many competitor clubs being attached to and backed by professional football clubs. Lucy was not far behind in 13th, followed by Sophie in 29th and Grace in 49th.
Our team placed 5th in Europe on their debut in this competition. We now look forward to the English National on Saturday 21st February, after yesterday’s result we are excited to see what we can achieve on both individual and team fronts.
