Herne Hill Harriers womens team finished their UK Women’s League season with a strong third place at Kingsmeadow to consolidate their third place finishing position in the League.
As with previous matches the middle distance squad contributed a huge amount towards the teams points score with double wins from Steph Mitchell 2.17.12 and Katie Kedward 2.21.66 in the 800m and Steph McCall winning the 3000m in 9.46.27 and Annes Stevens 2nd in 11.21.69 in the 3000m whilst Stacey Ward 4.36.14 and Natasha Lodge PB 4.56.59 were second and first in the 1500m. Olivia Zeltner was second in the 2000m steeplechase in a new PB of 8.08.30 and Hannah Edwards 61.56 and Steph Mitchell 60.86 were both second in the 400m . Our 4 x 400m team of Hannah, Katie and the two Stephs were a strong second in 4.09.51
The match was better contested than the first two matches with the throws and sprints much more competitive. Charlotte Nicholls set a new PB in the hammer with 31.50m which was our most successful throwing event with Charlotte third and Louise Capicotto 2nd in the B string with 23.89m. Louise threw consistently all afternoon with 29 and 28.30m javelin. In the sprints Michelle Watson was second in the 100m B string in 12.84 and 4th in the 200m A string in 26.22 with Jade Phillips 5th in the 100m A string in 12.78 & Vanessa Grant 4th in the 200m B string in 27.45
We struggled in the jumps and hurdles as we have all season but Step Mitchell and Patti Gnoato both had PBs in the triple jump with 8.98 and 8.01m respectively and Annes, Olivia and Jesscia Winfield emphasised the team spirit that existed all season by helping us cover all hurdles events and keep our points scoring ticking over.
