Herne Hill Harriers teen runners dominate at Surrey League
Herne Hill Harriers girls and boys enjoyed quadruple individual and team wins in the U13/15 races at the Surrey League on Saturday, with the girl’s races part of the women’s fixture at Roundshaw Common and the boys running within the men’s match on Wimbledon Common.
Lucy Olsen, fresh from being the fastest girl in the National road relays, won the U15 girls race by nearly 50 seconds to lead the club to team victory. In the U13 girls Maisie Collis was a comfortable winner, while at Wimbledon Mohamed Mohamud was the first U15 boy home and Jaden Kennedy led the U13 field.
The individual winners were joined by strong-placing teammates to secure first in the team results, our winning U15 girls being Lucy Olsen, Clarissa Nicholls, Jemima Hayward-Bhikha, Sofia Di Carlo, with Maisie Collis, Jessica Tabraham, Rosie Hammond, Jess Butland following suit for our U13 girls.
Not to be outdone, our boys teams won the combined U15/U17 team through Mohamed Mohamud, Paul Burgess, Feysel Nadew and Abel Tadesse, while our U13 boys secured their collective victory through Jaden Kennedy, Jacob Solon, Charlie Krammer and Jacob Harrison.
Our senior men and women were well represented in numbers, but couldn’t match their younger club mates positions at the sharp ends of their races, our men’s fifth placed team being led home by another fine run by Mike Cummings’ eighth out of 199 finishers, while our women eighth team in their Division One race with a returning Karen Ellison our best placed lady in 21st.
