Five medals for HHH athletes at English Schools Champs

Ore English Schools 2015 gold

Ore Adamson won the junior girls long jump at the English Schools championships at Gateshead with a superb jump of 5.61m.

Ore was competing in her first English Schools championship and being in school year 8 will still be in the age group next year. She took the lead in the opening round and then had to wait whilst several competitors got close to her mark in a high quality competition

Herne Hill Harriers had twenty three athletes at the prestigious English Schools championships including a third of the London Schools team. There were silver medals from Michaella Obijiaku in the seniors girls shot with 12.98m, Alex Brown who put in a storming finish to get silver on the line in the junior girls 1500m in 4.35.17 and Alfred Mawdsley in the junior boys discus with 42.95m whilst Mohamed Mohamud won a bronze medal in the junior boys 1500m.

Both Brown (U15 girls) and Mohamud (U15 boys) set new HHH club records for their respective events in their age categories. Other notable non-medal winning performances came from Turkay Korkmaz (fourth in the junior boys’ 800m in 1:58.33, which was close to the club U15M record) and Denisha Marshall-Brown who threw 12.93m in the girls’ intermediate shot.
