Herne Hill Harriers U13 girls team scooped the young team of the year award at the Active Wandsworth sports awards last night at the Civic Hall. It was the third successive year that the girls cross country team had won the award after they won the Surrey, Southern and National cross country titles in 2014
Their coach James McDonald was presented with an award for his contribition & services to sport, James coaches a large squad of youngsters from 9-18 years old with many starting as raw newcomers and progressing to national level.
Marvin Popoola who represented Great Britain in the World Junior championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA in the 4 x 100m relay and won medals at National championships was nominated in the Sports Person of the Year and Ore Adamson, top ranked in the country in the U13 girls long jump, was nominated in the Young Sports Person of the Year whilst their coach Les Johnson was nominated in the Coach of the Year Award. Oscar Millard was nominated in the best performance in the London Youth Games for his aquathon performances
Hannah Gleed and Morag Rea were presented with awards for their volunteering – a vital part of local sports clubs
The Active Wandsworth Awards were presented by Sky’s Anchorman David Garrido.
