Historic HHH mens win seals promotion as runaway BAL division champions

Herne Hill Harriers flagship team in the men’s British Athletics League famously secured promotion to the second tier as runaway champions of BAL National 2 with a historic match win at Derby. Following this excellent team victory HHH will in 2012 be among the top 16 men’s club teams in the UK for the first time in the long, proud existence of a relatively small London club. With our women’s national league team also promoted to our highest ever level and with other team successes for our young athletes and veterans, 2011 must rank as the best ever year for the club to date.

A full match report will follow, but for now I list the highhlights as being the event wins for Thomas Ashby (A discus and B 110m hurdles), Robert Graham (B 100m), Byron Robinson (PB in B 200m), Tobi Adeyemi (B 400m), Ashley Ralph (B discus) and Taiwo Aderini (PB in B triple jump). Our best non event winning performance was in the final track event of our great BAL season, in which our super 4 x 400m team of Sammy Croll-Mensah, Nicholas Atwell, Tobi Adeyemi and Peter Phillips smashed the club record for the second time this year with 3.14.76 behind a Trafford team which included internationals.

Well done to all who contributed during this historic season.
