Herne Hill Harriers were presented with their award for Development Club of the Year at the England Athletics London Region awards presentation evening held in the Olympic Suite in Stratford appropriately overlooking the Olympic stadium. The club has enjoyed its most successful track & field year with both senior teams gaining promotion in their National leagues and enjoying their highest ever placings. Ivor Northey was awarded the London Development Coach of the year at the same presentation. The club continues to encourage new members and over fifty youngsters braved the cold weather to take part in the final Quad kids competition of the year for under 11/13/15s at Tooting bec on Sunday morning.
At the Southern Inter Counties cross country races at Woodford in Essex Saskia Millard continued her excellent winter with a second place to help Surrey win the under 13 girls team race. Ed Olsen was twelfth in the U15 boys race and Isaac Brown 20th in the Under 13 boys race.
Indoors Michella Obijiaku won the under 17 womens shot at the Metaswitch Indoor Open meeting at Picket Lock setting a new PB or 11.30m with the 4kg shot. Michella was the fastest Under 17 women in the 60m with 8.01, amongst the male sprinters Ishmail Abdul Karim was the fastest U17 man in 7.31 & Kishon Allen won the under 15 boys races in 7.47. Rachel Madden set a new PB with 26.61 in winning her U17 womens 200m race.
On the European stage, a member of our successful HHH British Athletics League track & field team, John Travers, led the Ireland U23 men’s team in the European Cross Country Championship in freezing temperatures in Budapest, placing 44th.
