At the Sussex Masters Cross Country Championship at Lancing Keith Newton won his 7th successive Sussex Over 40 cross-country title, eclipsing Horsham’s John Luxford’s record of 6 consecutive wins from around 3 decades ago. Luxford was present to see his record fall as one of the race officials. Keith had a clear lead before halfway, cruising home to win the 8.7km race in 31:42, 36 seconds ahead of a rival from Crawley.
On Wimbledon Common, Vic Maughn won the Veterans AC Cross Country Championship as 3 HHH runners placed in the 1st 4. Vic was almost half a minute ahead of Mike Boyle, running his first race since turning 50 on Christmas Eve, who was 1st in the M50 category, while another over 50, Tony Harran was a good 4th place overall.
