Reigning champions, Herne Hill Harriers, produced another impressive team display on Saturday 14 January to extend their lead in division 1 of the Surrey League. Star man, Chris Busaileh won the race outright in a time of 28.47 minutes giving the Harriers’ its first individual win in the senior men’s race after some considerable time. Chris was well supported by team mates to ensure the Harriers were also the first to close the 10-man team over the five-mile course on Farthing Downs, Coulsdon.
Chris said: “I am delighted with the result. To win this race outright is a great feeling considering the quality of runners in the competition. I hope there is a lot more to come from me.” The Harriers’ senior men’s team currently lie in first place with a lead of 425 points over Thames Hare and Hounds with one fixture remaining.
Elsewhere, the Harriers’ Saskia Millard won the under-13 girls race in 12 minutes flat, followed by team mate and training partner, Breagha Campbell, in second place in a time of 12.17 minutes.
In other news, track and field athletes Peter Phillips and Jess Knight both won silver in the 400m at the Southern Indoor Championships on 15 January. Peter ran a season’s best time of 49.44 in the senior men’s race while Jess ran 58.88 in the under-20 women’s race.
