Storm Alex abated during the afternoon of Saturday 3rd October to enable our Open meeting to take place at Tooting Bec in cool but dry conditions. The weather held yesterday for everyone except Ray and Marianne Cowper who spent 90 minutes before the event emptying the shotput pit with buckets after heavy overnight and early morning rain. Sincere thanks for their efforts well beyond the usual demands of a field official. Our marshalls did a fantastic job of keeping everyone safe.
There were some splendid performances continuing the benefits athletes have been finding of regular competition in recent weeks. The 800ms and Stan Allen mile events were particularly well attended with Mike Cummings winning the senior mile with commentary from Alex Hobley and applause all around to heighten the atmosphere. Track results are already here, https://data.opentrack.run/en-gb/x/2020/GBR/hhhopen310/event/, field to follow.
On behalf of our President Keith Newton (keith.newtonhhh@hotmail.co.uk) massive thanks to everyone who turned out yesterday, track field and marshalls, old timers, new people, and those who supported us from other clubs. Any feedback on the event, please let Keith know.
And maybe it’s not all over. In this strangest of years, it’s possible we may have another event in late October, reflecting the ease with which Covid risk can be managed in the track as opposed to some road or xc environments. We wil let you know as soon as we can.
