The second edition within the month of May of the new popular Friday Night Under the Lights 5km road races in Battersea Park saw another clutch of PB runs from Herne Hill athletes.
Lewis Laylee was the fastest of the runners in red and black with 14:48, a PB by eight seconds, closely followed by Brandon Dewar, who turned things around after a disappointing track 5,000m last Saturday to run sub-15 minutes with his 14:54.
Jack Brotchie’s 15:19 was a PB, as was Joe Elliott running 15:48. Jeff Cunningham was close behind with 15:51, and Andrew Warburton timed 15:52. Ross Brown clocked a PB in 16:18, Josh Pewter ran 16.28 and M45 Ben Paviour finished in 16:41.
Sarah Grover ran her first sub-18 minutes 5km, clocking 17:56. Julia Wedmore ran 18:57 to improve on her previous race at this event three weeks ago.
Saskia Millard placed eighth in the 1,500m A race at the British Milers Club Grand Prix at SportCity in Manchester on Saturday in 4:23.72. It was less than two seconds shy of her PB in her first outing over this distance this year.
There was also a very good run at the distance by another Herne Hill U23 woman as Alexandra Brown placed fourth in the B race finishing with a strong final lap to post a substantial PB of 4:24.92 as a break from her studies at Oxford University.
Ryan Willmott ran superbly to finish second in the Kempton Park Marathon in a big PB 2:42.10 on Saturday morning.
Rising young star Ignatius Abebrese produced his best triple jump performance (14.50m) at the Harrow Spring open meeting. An allowable following wind of plus 1.7 metres per second sees him move up to fourth in the UK U20 men’s rankings and should qualify him for the English Schools Championship in July.
Multi-events athlete Dante Clarke (U17) placed third in the London, Middlesex and Kent Schools Combined Events Championship at Lee Valley on Wednesday with a pentathlon score of 2,235 points. His performances in the five events were – 15.04 for 100m hurdles, 1.65m high jump, 5.97m long jump, 19.93m discus and 5:23.3 for 1,500m. He will represent London in the octathlon on June 26 at Lee Valley.
Gen Huss was third woman home in in the Boston Marathon in Lincolnshire on Saturday with a PB of 3:00.16, so close to breaking the 3 hour barrier.
Fiona de Mauny ran a season’s best 800m in 2:16.30 at the Aldershot open meeting on Monday, while Chris de Mauny missed his best for the year to date by a matter of hundredths of a second with 2:23.67.
Lea Adamson, who is making great strides under Wayne Vinton’s guidance, clocked a PB 10:04.79 in her 3,000m race. Joe Fenwick ran a PB in his 1,500m with 4:08.55 on a day when the hot sunshine contrasted with the very strong winds at the previous open meeting at this venue a month ago.
