Herne Hill’s Newton is the Sussex Master

Herne Hill Harriers’ Keith Newton was the winner of the the M50 gold medal at the Sussex Masters Cross Country Championship on a hilly circuit at LancingManor. Newton finished 13 seconds ahead of a man who has been in good form in recent senior races and he has now extended a fantastic record whichstretches to 10 Sussex Masters XC titles in 13 years since turning 40! Closer to home, Alan Barnes won the Bank of England Inter Club XC race in Richmond Park, with his own rather convincing winning margin of 52 seconds.
Across the pond in Idaho, USA, following a 10 hour long ride from her university base in Sacramento, Hannah Edwards made her debut in US collegiate indoor track racing finishing 3rd over 800m in 2.15.16. In a race where the entire field charged off at a ludicrously fast pace Edwards held on well for a good placing and will in the coming weeks be seeking to bring her time down to hopefu;lly qualify for the NCAA Conference finals as she settles into the different racing experience in the States.
