Herne Hill Harriers’ track and field athletes warmed up for the upcoming season by clinching eight gold medals at the Surrey Indoor Championships.
Gold medallists included Thomas Ashby (SM long jump), Tayo Andrews (U20M high jump), Breagha Campbell (U17W high jump) and Jess Collins (U15G high jump). The 60m also proved a happy hunting ground for Harriers, with golds for Mackanaki Williams (U20M), Risqat Fabunmi-Alade (SW), Esther Fuja (U20W) and Lakeisha Owuso-Junior (U15G), while sprinters Nicholas Atwell and Byron Robinson were second and third respectively in a competitive SM event.
Racing at the British Indoor Championships at Sheffield, Hannah Edwards claimed an indoor personal best in the 800m, as she clocked 2:13.25 for fifth in her heat. Jessie Knight ran a season’s best 55.19 in her heat to qualify for the 400m semi-final. Knight went on to finish fifth in her semi-final in 56.02.
On the road, Mohammed Ismail was Harriers’ first finisher in the Valentine’s 10k at Chessington, finishing seventh in 33 minutes, 48 seconds. Vic Maughn was first V50 and 16th overall in 35.10, while Matt Munro notched a personal best of 35.35 in finishing 18th. Deron Fagan was 20th in 36.05. Mary Setyabule was first W45 and 93rd in 42.50 and Jen Barraclough 161st in 47.16.
In the pick of parkrun performances, Robin Jones finished in first place at Dulwich in 16.22, Jonny Muir was the winner at Burgess Park in 16.40, Stacey Ward was first at Northala Fields in 17.33, and Tom Boswell was victorious at Crystal Palace in 17.55.
