Major championships qualifying event in Tooting nets big prize fund
Herne Hill Harriers has announced a significant sponsorship deal to support its British Milers Club (BMC) event at Tooting Bec Athletics Track on 26 July 2023.
As well as carrying a UK Athletics Level 2 licence – which ensures performances can count for qualifying times for major championships – the event will have one of the biggest-ever BMC prize pots, courtesy of leading financial technology firm MarketAxess.
Prizes for each of the 800m, 1500m and 5000m events, men and women, are:
£600, £300, £100 for the fastest three times.
£50 for the fastest U20 (can be an U17 if quicker than U20).
£100 for the fastest British finisher.
A shared £1100 for the lead performance in each event/gender that achieves UK 10 target times (Power of 10). 800m – 1.47/2.01.5; 1500m – 3.38/4.08; 5000m – 13.35/15.30. If more than one person in a race runs these times only the first person will win the bonus.
Individuals can receive more than one prize.
The sponsorship deal follows last year’s hugely successful BMC meeting in Tooting, which saw two sub-4-minute miles by Hobbs Kessler and Eric Avila (both United States – pictured above) and a sub-2-minute women’s 800m by Taryn Rawlings (United States).
This year’s event promises to be similarly entertaining and spectators are encouraged to attend, free of charge.
