Top runs for Jeff and Sue at muddy Reigate

On a very wet afternoon at the South of Thames 5 miles team race at Reigate HHH fielded a men’s team (only just) and a women’s team. Our men’s team was led by Jeff Cunningham who was 6th with a strong run and he was followed by Basil Wallace, Sam Knight and Ben Hallifax as our four man team, while our 5th finisher was Toby Cooper. Had we had a full team then we could have easily have retained the shields that were so hardly fought for last year. The HHH women’s team had more team scoring runners on the day. Sue Swaine in 5th ran a fantastic, blistering run and continued her form from last week at Parliament Hill. The rest of the four woman’s team was Helen Hadjam, Nicky St Clair and Eleanor Stringer and the team was followed up by Patti, Penel, Sarah, Sonia and Jilly. The course was very muddy and wet, which made for a typical cross country in November.

Our on the day team manager Rupert Mainwaring commented that it may seem that HHH had changed our manager after a number of defeats, with our rich owner (we wish!) wanting more success in local leagues and abroad. But after this latest defeat, speculation is that the new manager after one outing will soon be removed as well.

In road running, at the Wolverton 5 in Milton Keynes, Mike Cummings set another road running PB to place 2nd in 25.50, with Simon Coombes finishing 2nd veteran around a minute behind Mike.
