Yet again another successful weekend for Young HHH middle distance athletes, as the club had Lascelles Hussey, Katie Snowden, Skye O’Shaughnessy, Georgie Hay, Paul Burgess, Breagha Campbell and Saskia Millard all competing in the South of England Inter Counties Championships. The average size of the field was about 76 of some of the best Cross country athletes in the south of the country.
In the Under 13 Girls, both Breagha and Saskia ended up with a team silver as well as Saskia’s individual Bronze Medal. Breagha finished in 7th place running the entire course in trainers after misplacing her spikes, added to that some of the athletes including our two were sent the wrong way which had some bearing on the outcome.
In the Under 13 Boys age group Paul Burgess again gave a masterful performance winning an individual bronze in third place. In the Under 15G race Georgie Hay 43rd and Skye O’Shaughnessy 58th found the going a bit tough and in the under 15 Boys race Lascelles Hussey finished in 27th place.
In the Under 20 Women’s race Katie Snowden finished in 4th position in her first race at 6km distance out of a field of 38 with what was possibly her best cross country race so far in terms of finding some of her battling qualities as she builds her endurance in pursuit of international track success in 2012.
The following day saw HHH young athletes travel to Lee Valley for the London Metaswitch Games. Paul Burgess once again gave a stunning performance graded in a race with some really strong athletes but held his own to finish in 2nd place in a respectable time about a second outside his PB. Young Oscar Millard ran a PB and Max Ferrari also had a good run. U20 Jess Knight ran 2:25.00 and Georgie Hay 2mins 28.89 in a race which saw Olivia Lamont run one of her best judged races from ages in a time of 2:47.02.
In the Under 13 Girls race, it was virtually Enfield and Haringey versus HHH, with Saskia Millard, Bozena Fanner and Izzie Lamport-Went all having individual battles with the E 7 H girls. Saskia won in 2:29.12 with Bozena – still a Year 6 – running 2:38.11 and Izzie 2:43.91 . In the U17 race Francesca Lloyd lined up for what was he first 800m race anywhere along with Clare Burgess. They both ran wonderful races with Francesca 2:42.25 running beautifully and finishing in a strong first place and Clare holding off an athlete for a great finish and getting a PB to boot in 2mins 59.65.
