Top Middle Distance efforts at both Eltham and Tooting

On Wednesday 23rd July we saw some top running at both the Eltham BMC and the Tooting Rosenheim League meetings. After the traumas of their house fire caused by lightning in last week’s storms racing 1500m was probably relatively easy for Lascelles Hussey by comparison. He certainly looked good with his PB 3.58.22, just behind Chris Busaileh who was close to his own best running 3.57.25.

It was a bit windier for the earlier 800m races, where Katie Snowden was again within a few tenths of her PB with 2.04.19 and Mike Cummings a little over a second outside his with 1.57.31. Both will improve on PBs they have set this year before the season is done. Penel Cummings slashed something like 40 sec off her best time for the 1km walk and John Tayleur followed up a recent 800m PB of 2.02 with a 1500m best of 4.12.49.

At Tooting Cathy Ansell followed Monday’s 5km road season’s best by knocking 9 sec off her best 1500m of the year clocking 4.43.0, while Simon Coombes ran 4.09.7, which ranks him 3rd M40 in the UK this year and Jordan Maurice continued his comeback with another very encouraging 4.12.5. U17’s Paul Burgess and Feysel Nadew ran excellent PBs for 800m and 400m respectively with 2.00.6 and 51.3.
Nicholas Atwell scored a fine winning sprint double and Thomas Ashby threw a very fine 49.70m to comfortably win the discus. With a 4 x 200m relay team win HHH placed 2nd in the match and qualify for the Rosenheim League Final at Tooting on Wednesday 13th August.
