This week sees the introduction running circuits aimed at building your all round strength and boosting your lactate clearance powers. Many of you will have done circuits before but how many of your have combined circuits with running intervals? The workout could be described as intervals with body-weight exercises as recovery. These workouts are hard but they do a terrific job of making you fatigue resistant with a seeming ability to keep up a work-rate you would have previously thought beyond you. They work for two reasons: (1) because a stronger muscle needs less oxygen allowing you to run faster for the same level of effort; (2) because when you are working really hard the muscles can mop up lots more fatigue-producing lactate…
