President’s Reflections: February 2021

Well, with February being a short month we have just slipped into March, so my apologies for being slightly overdue with the February edition.  I do though write with great excitement now that the national roadmap has been published, and we can all look forward to some positive developments over the coming months.

From an athletics point of view we can recommence group training sessions from 29 March 2021 (note Tooting Bec track will open from that date, check with the venue direct if you use other facilities).

We must continue to comply with the conditions that have applied during previous training periods to ensure we can maintain a ‘covid secure’ environment i.e. social distancing, avoiding travelling to/from training with others, handwashing, health questionnaire completion and staying away if you have covid symptoms.

But all involved with the Club will welcome this return, and there are also some promising signs regarding competitions, for the Spring and Summer months.  More to follow through the normal channels.

Beyond some virtual activity, we have been bereft of competition over the winter within the UK.  I should though congratulate Katie Snowden for capitalising on one of the few home-based opportunities around, the UK trial, and on her selection for the upcoming European Indoor Championships, 1500m.  We will be looking out for you and cheering from our armchairs!
