Herne Hill Harriers’ young star Ore Adamson broke another in a string of under 13 girl’s club records in the past weeks as she extended her own long jump best to a brilliant 5.23m in winning at a Southern Counties Inter Counties match at Kingsmeadow. This mark tightens Ore’s grip on her position at the top of the UK age group rankings and also broke a meeting record set by Morgan Lake, the British junior international heptathlete who recently won two gold medals at the World Junior Championship in Eugene, Oregon.
Harrier’s own Marvin Popoola and Zak Irwin both also made the trip to Eugene as part of their national teams, but in both cases they left the meeting unfulfilled, albeit they will have gained invaluable major championship experience. Marvin was selected for the Great Britain sprint relay team and was on the anchor stage in the heats, but unfortunately the baton never reached him after a disastrous earlier changeover meant the team were unable to finish. Zak was selected for Ireland in the 200m, but was disappointed with his 4th place in his heat in 21.78, which saw him eliminated from a semi final for which he had hoped to qualify if he could have replicated or improved on a best time that is a few tenths quicker.
