Herne Hill Harriers strength in numbers

Nearly thirty Herne Hill Harriers senior runners contributed to the second race of the season in the annual Surrey League series.

HHH senior men’s team, running on Wimbledon Common, finished fourth, including impressive contributions from the team’s M50 vets. First Harrier home was Mike Cummings (8th) followed by second scorer Alan Barnes (10th). Third man home was Dave Taylor, also the first M50 across the line. Two of the Harriers other top 10 scorers, Dave Robinson and Keith Newton, were the second and third M50s over the line.

The women’s race took place at Esher, with HHH senior women taking fifth overall. Ella Newton led the team’s scoring on her senior league debut, placing a good 12th in the Division 1 race, closely followed by the team’s second and third scorers: Hannah Edwards (14th) and Karen Ellison (15th).

In addition, the youth teams continued their fine team form, including individual wins for Lulu King (Under 13 girls), Jaden Kennedy (U13 boys) and Mohamed Mohamud (U15 and U17 boys). Harriers’ U13 boys, U13 girls plus our combined U15/U17 boys all won their team races and all of these lead the league after two of four races.
