Herne Hill Harriers has announced a significant prize pot for its British Milers Club (BMC) Record Breaker event at Tooting Bec Athletics Track on 24 July 2024.
As well as being part of the World Athletics Calendar and carrying a UK Athletics Level 2 licence – which ensures performances can count for qualifying times for major championships – the event will once again be sponsored by leading financial technology firm MarketAxess.
Prizes for each of the 800m, 1500m and 3000m events, men and women, are:
- £600, £300, £100 for the fastest three times.
- £50 for the fastest U20 (can be an U17 if quicker than U20).
- £100 for the fastest British finisher.
- A shared £1100 for the lead performance in each event/gender that achieves UK 10 target times (Power of 10). 800m – 1.46.5/2.01.00; 1500m – 3.38/4.08; 3000m – 7.49.5/8.52.5. If more than one person in an event runs these times, only the fastest man/woman will win the bonus.
Individuals can receive more than one prize.
The event follows last year’s hugely successful BMC meeting in Tooting, which saw world-class performances and highlights including:
- A BMC record – 3:35.15 in the 1500m – set by Sam Tanner (New Zealand)
- A BMC members record for an all-female race – 1:59.43 in the 800m – set by Alex Bell (Great Britain)
- A BMC members record – 3:35.59 in the 1500m – set by Calum Elson (Great Britain)
- The three fastest men’s 1500m times in BMC history and 10 men under 3:38, versus eight who had done so at BMC meetings in previous 60 years.
- The third highest quality women’s 800m in BMC history.
- Four Olympians racing.
This year’s event promises to be similarly entertaining, and spectators are encouraged to attend, free of charge.
