Years 7 & 8’s star at their own London Schools Champs

Many of Herne Hill Harriers talented youngsters performed superbly in the London Schools year 7 / 8 championships at Mile End on Tuesday 19th June setting five championship best performances.

Breagha Campbell set two championship bests in the year 8 girls 1500m where her 4 mins 56.6 seconds beat the record of 5:02.1 set by Alexa Hunn in 1995. Breagha’s high jump record of 1.51m beat the previous record of 1.50m set in 1982 and equalled in 1983 and 2005.

Saskia Millard who smashed the clubs 800m record on Sunday set a new U13 girls 1500m club record and year 7 championship 1500m best performance with 4 mins 55.4 seconds beating the record of 5:05.7 set by this years U13 national cross country champion Sabrina Sinha in 2011.

William Bates was another club record breaker setting a new championship record in the year 7 boys javelin with 37.18m which also bettered the club record whiuch had stood since 2004. Sam Wattles improved his PB by four seconds in the year 8 boys 800m with 2 mins 7.2 seconds beating the championship record of 2:13.2 set by Herve Mbamba in 2005. Denisha Marshall-Brown’s 13.2 100m in the year 7 100m bettered the previous championship record of 13.3 and Denisha also went on to win the shot putt.
